August's Birthstone is Peridot

Peridot is an ancient gem dating back to the Egyptians and was collected for the pharaohs. It is the national gem of Egypt and often referred to as the “Gem of the Sun”.

It is sometimes found in meteorites; often brought to the surface in volcanic areas.

Appearance:  Transparent green in color and can vary from yellow-green, olive, to brownish green in a crystal structure. The more iron it contains the more intense the color.

Facts:  Given to celebrate the 16th year of marriage.
